The New England Jewelers Association (NEJA) has evolved from the former Massachusetts Rhode Island Jewelers Association which had been formed in 1916. Today, NEJA includes the states of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont and now boasts over 500 members.
|
The purpose of the Association was to foster the integrity and professionalism of the retail jewelers through communication and education. NEJA has maintained these clear objectives, throughout the years. |
|

| Today, NEJA presents several education sessions annually, as well as 10 tuition scholarships. Fundraising activities in the form of a golf outing, jewelry design competition and “Watch Batteries for Childrens’ Charities” have been designed to encourage networking, share information and provide value to its membership. The quarterly newsletter provides current industry information as well as membership and event news.
In addition to the benefit of having an industry organization locally, the annual dues include membership in Jewelers of America (JA). This national organization affords member benefits such as certification (bench, sales associate and management); education programs for the business owner and staff; marketing materials; an eye to global and national issues as it pertains to the industry; as well as many business services to help the jewelers to operate more profitably.
Each year jewelers face the challenges of the ever growing technology of buying and selling online; treatments of gems; global issues such as Conflict Diamonds; and the need for timely information and education in all of these areas. These issues, combined with the variety of benefits and values offered to the membership and the national association with JA is why NEJA continues to grow today.
The celebration of the 91st year of this association stands as a testament of the viability of the New England Jewelers Association., Inc. The membership, in conjunction with the other state jewelers’ associations, forms a strong and clear voice in the industry. These voices are what help to keep not only NEJA, but also the entire industry one of integrity and professionalism.
